A very smart man once told me that to be successful in the restaurant business it is vital you be consistent. The customer needs to know what to expect. Well, truer words were never spoken and Wendy’s Place in Minong, Wisconsin fits that description. They are consistent all right, the food and service is always good.
Meet Wendy Holman. She owns the restaurant and does the cooking. And boy does she cook. Let’s start with the daily specials. Breakfast is always a favorite with giant plates and platters piled high with hot, scrumptious food. For instance, one of the menu favorites is the Sportsman Special. Listen to this, it includes two eggs, 8 ounce chopped steak, hash browns and toast all for a very reasonable price. Imagine that, a real old fashion, home cooked breakfast at a reasonable price. Lunch and dinner have their own favorites, too.
Wendy’s Place is, more than ever, a family affair. “The children work here too,” Wendy explained without taking her eye off the grill. Daughters Jenna and Heather cook and wait and bus tables as needed. They are learning the business the same way Wendy did over 30 years ago, at the bottom and working every job on the way up.
Anyway, back to the food. There is a full menu plus daily specials for breakfast, lunch and supper. There is a baked chicken dinner every Sunday. There are daily soup specials and chili to warm up any cold winter day.
The restaurant was built in 1960 in this little northwoods town along Highway 53. Wendy and her late husband Terry bought the place 15 years ago.

As good a cook as Wendy is she is every bit the baker, too. First, there are giant cinnamon rolls everyday. Pull off the highway for a cinnamon roll every time you go past Minong. It’s worth the stop and since the service is outstanding you won’t have to wait long. There is pie and many other fresh baked goods. In the summer, during the season, you can get the best strawberry pie you ever tasted, everyday.
